Blister Care After Laser Tattoo Removal Treatment

Blistering can be a common and normal response to laser tattoo removal treatment. To ensure optimal healing, it’s important to take proper care of any blisters that form. Follow the steps below to care for your skin and avoid complications.

How to Care for Blisters After Laser Tattoo Removal:

1. Wear Loose-Fitting Clothing

• • Prevent irritation by avoiding tight clothing or anything that might rub against the treated area.

2. Leave Small Blisters Intact

• • • Blisters smaller than a 1 dollar coin (less than 25mm in diameter) usually won’t cause problems. Leave them intact to heal on their own.

3. Draining Larger Blisters

• • If a blister is larger than a 1 dollar coin, causing discomfort, or at risk of tearing, it’s appropriate to lance and drain it following these steps:

    • Gently clean the area with non-fragrant, non-antibacterial soap and water, being careful not to pop the blister.
    • Using a sterile lancet, carefully poke a small hole at the base of the blister to drain the fluid.
    • Catch the draining fluid with a gauze pad or clean paper towel, keeping at least one inch away from the blister.

4. Do Not Pick at or Remove the Skin

• • The skin over the blister is your body’s natural bandage. Keep it intact to promote healing.

5. Apply a Thin Layer of Vaseline

• • Once drained, apply a thin layer of Vaseline to the blister and cover it with a non-adherent bandage. Avoid placing adhesive directly on the blister, as it may tear the skin when removing the bandage.

6. Clean and Reapply Bandages Twice Daily

• • Clean the area with lukewarm water and non-fragrant soap. Reapply Vaseline and replace the bandage if there is drainage on the old one. Continue this process until the blister stops draining and the skin is healed, typically between 1 to 3 days.
