A new pilot study conducted by Removery is reshaping the way clinicians and clients think about tattoo regret—specifically, how soon removal can safely begin.
While traditional advice has long recommended waiting six weeks to several months after getting a tattoo, Removery’s research shows that removal as early as 24 hours post-application is not only possible, but safe when using picosecond laser technology.
“Our research validates early picosecond laser intervention as a safe option for those experiencing regret immediately after getting a tattoo,” said Dr. William Kwan, Chair of Removery’s Clinical Advisory Board. “It allows individuals to begin removal promptly and achieve quicker results.”
The study examined that tattoos can be treated with picosecond laser technology just 24 hours after application—without added safety risks. It included 62 participants across a range of Fitzpatrick skin types and focused exclusively on black ink tattoos.
Key findings:
This data offers clinical validation for beginning the tattoo removal process sooner than previously recommended—especially for clients seeking immediate change.
Tattoo regret can be instant—and for years, clients were told they had to wait. This study opens the door to earlier intervention, especially for those who want to start their removal journey immediately and avoid further emotional or physical discomfort.
As the world’s leading tattoo removal provider, Removery continues to advance clinical knowledge and improve protocols through research like this—ensuring every client receives the safest and most effective treatment possible.
