How It Works
Where your tattoo is located and how big it is may impact how you experience laser tattoo removal. A tattoo the size of a 5-cent piece may only take a few seconds to laser. It’s so fast that sometimes, it’s over before you can fully process what it feels like! Small tattoos only require quick treatments and are relatively tolerable.
A larger tattoo increases discomfort due to a longer duration of removal, but our laser technicians do everything they can to keep you comfortable throughout the treatment. There are many things we can do to help reduce the discomfort of our clients.
Our laser specialists apply cold ice packs to the area during preparation for the treatment, then use our Zimmer cooling device to keep cold compressed air on the area during the treatment to keep you cool. We take care to structure the appointment in a way that works for you, including breaks, breathing exercises, and more!
Below are steps we actively take to make your tattoo removal experience better.
Most people find removal treatments comparable to getting a tattoo and are surprised by how quickly the treatment is completed. Come in with an open mind! We promise to take care of you.
Laser tattoo removal works because energy hits the ink and breaks it into tiny particles. To minimise the way it feels, we apply ice packs to the tattoo prior to treatment, cooling and numbing your skin.
During the treatment, we use a Zimmer chiller device that applies compressed air at -30ºC to the skin, providing a consistent cooling effect.
Along with conscious customer care, we will provide a countdown for the test spot so that you are fully prepared when the treatment begins.
Breathing exercises such as four-square rhythmic breathing can help reduce discomfort.

After your tattoo removal treatment, we’ll provide ample aftercare instructions to keep your skin happy and healthy until your next treatment.
For the vast majority of clients, there are no side effects after treatment. In occasional cases blisters may occur, but these are easily managed with our aftercare protocols.

Our PicoWay® laser’s ultra-short pulse durations are so quick that it dissolves ink particles without destroying the live tissue in the process. It’s similar to running your hand over a candle very quickly; there is not enough time to burn the skin. Redness, swelling, blistering, and scabbing may follow tattoo removal laser treatments. You can rest easy knowing our laser technology, combined with proper aftercare, minimises the risk of scarring to nearly impossible.
Laser treatment is the safest and most effective method for removing tattoos when it’s performed by a certified technician who is trained to use tattoo removal lasers. At Removery, all of our studios are staffed with certified technicians that have been trained for more than 180 hours to use our advanced PicoWay® lasers.
Numbing cream has been found to be ineffective and inefficient for laser tattoo removal, as it only numbs the surface of your skin. Tattoo removal lasers work beneath the top layer of the skin, meaning anything applied topically will not make a difference to the person receiving treatment.
Yes! You can go back to work, school, run errands or resume whatever else you had planned for the day after your treatment.
For your safety and the best results, we ask to please refrain from rigorous exercise for 24 hours after treatment and avoid hot water for 48 hours post-treatment.
