Most Australian tattoo removal providers charge per session. Removery offers a Complete Removal Package. The difference is not really about which option is cheaper, because nobody can tell you exactly how many sessions your tattoo will need in advance. It is about how the total cost is determined. Pay per session and you avoid paying upfront, but your total cost remains unknown until you finish. Buy a package and you lock in the price at the start, but commit upfront. This guide explains both approaches so you can decide which best fits your budget and priorities.
If you have started researching, you have probably seen a per-session price advertised. Extinkt publishes prices from $80 per treatment, and Melbourne Tattoo Removal publishes prices from $85 per treatment, both as at August 2026. Those figures are real and useful. They also tell you almost nothing about what your removal will actually cost. Removery offers a different approach: a Complete Removal Package with one agreed price for unlimited treatments until there is no more removable ink.
There is no single Australian price, and any provider quoting one should be treated carefully. What exists is a range of published starting prices, and each applies only to that provider.
As of August 2026, Extinkt publishes laser tattoo removal from $80 per treatment for extra-small tattoos, and states most of its clients fall between $80 and $300 per session depending on size. Melbourne Tattoo Removal publishes prices from $85 per treatment.
For extra-small tattoos. Most clients fall between $80 and $300 per session depending on size. Total cost depends on total sessions needed.
Published starting price. You keep your money in your pocket as you go, but the total stays unknown until you finish.
One agreed price for unlimited treatments. You commit up front, we carry the risk, and you know the total cost before you start.
What moves the price at almost every provider is the same short list: the physical size of the tattoo, how densely the ink was applied, which colours are present, where it sits on your body, and your skin type. Size is usually the primary driver. At Removery we measure using a standardised one inch by one inch grid to work out the total square inches of ink, which sets the size category.
The point is not to rank providers. It is that a starting price is a starting point, and comparing two starting prices tells you very little about which will cost you more overall.
With pay-per-session pricing, you pay for each treatment as you go, rather than committing to a package upfront. Your total cost depends on how many sessions your tattoo requires and the price of each treatment.
The best way to estimate the total is to look at a range of possibilities. At a published starting price of $85 per session, eight sessions would cost $680, 16 would cost $1,360, and 20 would cost $1,700. Melbourne Tattoo Removal notes that heavily inked tattoos can require 20 sessions. These examples illustrate how costs can add up; they are not predictions of how many sessions your tattoo will need, and the actual price per session may vary.
Pay-per-session pricing may also offer flexibility as your tattoo fades. Melbourne Tattoo Removal explains that the treated area can shrink as removal progresses, potentially reducing the cost of individual treatments. Whether this results in savings depends on the provider’s pricing structure and how your tattoo responds to treatment.
*Based on a published starting price of $85 per treatment.
A package replaces the per-session structure with a single price, agreed before treatment starts, covering treatment through to the end of the course.
At Removery, our published position is that a package is one price for unlimited treatments, and that clients are treated until all removable ink is gone, regardless of the number of sessions or the time it takes. If you want more than one tattoo treated, we can assess them together at consultation and price them as a combined area.
The word “removable” is doing real work in that sentence. It is not a promise that every trace of every tattoo will disappear. Some inks, particularly whites and certain cosmetic pigments, respond poorly or unpredictably, and results vary between individuals.
What a package does not include is the part to ask about directly. Exclusions vary between providers and are not always published, so treat any package as an incomplete picture until you have asked what falls outside it, in writing. That applies to us as much as to anyone else, and section eight sets out the questions worth asking.
A free consultation includes an in-person assessment and a quote customised to your tattoo.
The key difference between pay-per-session pricing and a Complete Removal Package is how each handles the uncertainty of tattoo removal. You won’t know exactly how many sessions your tattoo will need, so the pricing model you choose affects both your financial commitment and your total cost.
Neither pricing model is automatically better. Pay-per-session offers flexibility, but your total cost increases with each treatment. Removery’s Complete Removal Package offers one price for covered treatments until there is no more removable ink, giving you greater cost certainty if your tattoo requires more sessions than expected.
When comparing providers, look beyond the advertised payment amount. A weekly repayment figure isn’t the total price. Ask for the full cost over the financing term, including any applicable interest or fees, so you can compare your options accurately.
Per-session pricing is the better fit more often than package-selling providers tend to admit.
Fading for a cover-up: You are working towards a partial result your artist will judge, not a finished endpoint.
Testing the waters: You are not yet sure how your skin will respond, or whether you want to continue.
Flexibility matters: You can pause, stop, or move to a different provider without money tied up.
A package makes more sense when certainty is worth more to you than flexibility.
Budgeting certainty: If you are committed to complete removal, it converts an open-ended series of payments into a known figure.
Shifting financial risk: If your tattoo turns out to be stubborn (dense black work, layered cover-ups), the per-session total climbs while the package price does not.
Aligned incentives: Under per-session pricing, every additional session is additional revenue for the provider. Under a package, it is not.
Removery Choice offers a flexible suite of Australian payment options. You can choose to pay in full upfront, put down a deposit followed by regular monthly payments, finance your monthly payments, or simply pay per session. Because finance terms (including credit providers, interest rates, fees, and eligibility) can vary, you should always request these details in writing at your consultation and review them carefully before signing.
If you are considering Buy Now, Pay Later (BNPL) services, it helps to understand the current Australian landscape. Since 10 June 2025, BNPL providers in Australia face tighter regulation: they must hold an Australian credit licence and comply with the National Consumer Credit Protection Act. While they offer convenience, they are not entirely free of cost or consequence.
Always ask your chosen clinic which specific payment methods they accept, as this varies by provider. Most importantly, factor in the mismatch of scale: a BNPL product designed to spread a purchase across a short six-week window behaves very differently from a formal finance arrangement structured over two years.
If a provider cannot answer these clearly, that is information too. On refunds and cancellation, remember that Australian consumers have rights under the Australian Consumer Law that apply to services and cannot be signed away by a policy or contract term. If you are unsure where you stand, the ACCC and your state or territory consumer affairs office publish guidance. This article is general information, not advice on your own situation.
It depends entirely on how many sessions your tattoo needs, which cannot be known in advance. If your tattoo clears quickly, per-session may cost less. If it is stubborn, the package price does not move while a per-session total keeps climbing. The models differ in risk, not in guaranteed value.
Yes. Single treatments are available, and our published guidance notes that paying per session suits people fading a tattoo for a cover-up or those who want to see how their skin responds before committing.
Ask before you commit. Transfer arrangements between studios should be confirmed in writing at consultation rather than assumed from a website.
Refund and cancellation terms differ between providers, so ask for the policy in writing before you pay. Whatever a policy says, consumer guarantees under Australian Consumer Law apply to services and cannot be excluded by a business’s own terms. If you think something has gone wrong, the ACCC and your state consumer affairs office can point you to your rights.
No provider can tell you reliably in advance. It depends on ink colour and density, the age and quality of the tattoo, its position on your body, your skin type, any scarring, and how your own immune system responds. An in-person assessment is the only sensible basis for an estimate.
No. A weekly figure is a total divided by a term, and it may not reflect the full cost of any credit arrangement behind it. Always ask for the total price and the total you would repay.
Bring any questions you have to your consultation. We’re happy to answer all of them.
