Lindsay Ferraro ended up in a coma for 11 months after her ex-husband nearly beat her to death. After waking up on September 8th, 2017, she started intensive physical therapy to relearn speaking, walking, and other aspects of daily life.
Lindsay, a Massachusetts native, had a tattoo of a wedding ring on her finger from her previous marriage. After the incident, she thought it would be a permanent reminder of the pain she experienced. Now, Lindsay is removing the ink so she can finally start her next chapter.
Lindsay has many other tattoos, which she has no desire to get rid of. “I love all my tattoos. I used to get a new tattoo every year for my birthday,” she says. Her first tattoos depicted roses, placed perfectly on her shoulders. Since then, she has accumulated at least 18 tattoos in her growing collection. Her favorite tattoo, however, is one she did herself on her forearm. Lindsay has always loved to draw, so it was a natural decision to tattoo her own artwork on her body.
The ring tattoo was a constant reminder of the person who nearly ended her life in 2016. “I said, ‘I gotta get rid of it.’ I don’t want to remember what I’ve been through. I want to be strong,” she tells Removery.
Through Removery’s INK-nitiative program, the tattoo is almost fully erased.
Above all, Lindsay has remained steadfastly optimistic and determined. “No matter what I’ve been through, I’m still growing in life,” she affirms. “And I’m getting stronger and stronger.”
Removing the ring tattoo is helping Lindsay stay focused on healing and personal growth, instead of being reminded of the past. At first, she felt nervous about laser tattoo removal, but she feels the sessions get easier each time. “For anyone else whose tattoo reminds them of past trauma, removal can be an important part of moving forward in life,” she emphasizes.
Over the last year, Lindsay has been slowly learning to walk again and rebuild the strength in her legs. She is incredibly excited to continue her healing journey, including relearning how to drive. She was using a walker originally but is now progressing to a cane. “I’m slowly getting there,” she says.
Her journey to recovery has been getting easier, and she’s able to see the light at the end of the tunnel. With each day that passes, Lindsay is remaining focused on a full recovery mentally, emotionally, and physically.
