Josh started his tattoo journey in his late teens and early twenties, adorning his body with tattoos he thought were cool. However, those feelings gradually changed as the years passed, and the ink no longer represented the person he had become. Looking at his tattoos every day, Josh decided it was time for a serious change. He began researching ways to transform his unwanted ink, leaving him with two main options – a cover-up tattoo or tattoo removal.
Eventually, he decided on a cover-up tattoo, but the solution was not as straightforward as he had hoped. Because of the tattoo’s shape, size, and heavy black ink, creating a successful cover-up would be challenging for any artist. His tattoo artist recommended tattoo fading before beginning the project to achieve the best possible result.
Josh came to Removery to fade his stubborn ink, completing several treatment sessions with 12 weeks between each appointment to allow for proper healing.
With each session, Josh’s older tattoos gradually faded away, allowing him to envision a new design that would better reflect his journey of recovery and transformation.
Inspired by the rich symbolism behind traditional Japanese tattooing, Josh chose an Irezumi-style design to bring his vision to life. The koi fish on his shoulder represents persistence, while the changing seasons throughout the sleeve reflect the ever-evolving nature of life. The tiger on his leg symbolizes courage.
