Planning a wedding is all about feeling your best—and for many Gen Z brides, that includes saying goodbye to tattoos that no longer reflect who they are.
In a recent New York Post feature, Arizona bride-to-be Shania Addington opened up about her decision to remove her tattoos before walking down the aisle. What once felt like meaningful ink had become something she was eager to erase—especially with wedding photos on the horizon.
“I want to be able to wear a dress that I’m comfortable in, where I’m not having to hide my tattoos,” Addington told The Post. Now in the midst of her laser tattoo removal journey with Removery, she’s already completed two sessions and is beginning to see noticeable fading.
Carmen VanderHeiden Brodie, Removery’s co-founder and VP of clinical operations, confirmed the trend: wedding prep is one of the top reasons clients come in.
“Generally when somebody comes in for their wedding, the turnaround time that they’re looking for is super fast,” Brodie said. “A lot of times a wedding is planned in less than a year, so we work with them to fade the tattoo enough so makeup can cover it for the big day.”
Addington isn’t alone—TikTok is full of creators sharing their own tattoo regret stories as they approach their wedding days. Whether it’s the fear of clashing ink with their bridal look or a simple shift in personal identity, brides are using this moment as an opportunity to realign with how they want to show up—inside and out.
“I always say, it’s when the contents of the book doesn’t match the cover anymore,” Brodie said. “And really, what we’re wearing on our skin is the cover of our book and, obviously, who we are.”
That sentiment has resonated with countless clients, especially those entering a new chapter in life—like marriage.
